Event Descriptions

The Highlands Community League hosts a number of social event throughout the year. Community events are not exclusive to members of the league, but an opportunity for everyone to come out, gather round a communal area and visit with one another. Everyone is welcome.

Highlands/Bellevue Kid's Stuff Sale

When: Saturday, March 24

Kids grow out of their clothes so quickly! The Highlands / Bellevue parents group is gathering parents with lightly used clothing and baby items to come out an selling their kid's stuff.

Bring the family out for sparkle tattoos and other activities and enjoy a hot dog, juice and chips from the league run concession.

Winter Carnival

Let's face it, February is cold and snowy. Why not enjoy it? Bundle the family up and bring them out to the Highlands Park to enjoy an afternoon of fun in the snow. Please join us for snow painting, snow shoeing, taboganning, skating and more.  Let the hot chocolate warm your fingers, the fire warm your toes and the friends warm your heart!  Save the date!

Volunteers are always welcome for set up/clearing/teardown.

This holiday season, join your community in a communal feast of family favourites, turkey and all the trimmings. Start the season with family, friends and neighbours as we enjoy a horse sleigh ride through the community, holiday crafts, a visit from Santa and caroling.

For the potluck, please bring a favourite ready-to-serve dish, big enough (6-12 servings) to share. We will also be accepting donations to the Edmonton Food Bank.

Halloween Block Party

For all of you ghosts and ghouls brave enough to face the night, join the Highlands Community League for the first ever Halloween Block Party.

Dance the night away to some great tunes spun by Mr. DJ, warm your fingers and toes by the fire and enjoy some hot apple cider. This is going to be a night to remember!

Get Your Scary FACE On!

Lady Dolphin, famous face painter of the Strathcona Farmer’s Market, will be painting faces in the Program room of the Highlands Community Centre on Halloween.

Kids know that face masks can be clumsy and uncomfortable, not to mention unsafe when crossing roads.  Having your mask painted on, using hypo-allergic paints, allows for clear vision, comfort and a great look.   

Using your costume (please wear it) as inspiration, Lady Dolphin can create the perfect FACE just for you or your little Angel, Tiger, Ghost, Ghoul, Devil, Butterfly, Fairy, Frog or Princess.

Spooky "Tots" Spectacular

Calling all mini ghosts, goblins, princesses & pirates... please join us at the Highlands Community Centre for an indoor opportunity to show off your Halloween costumes, do crafts, play games and enjoy a treat or two. Activities will include a number of different stations including “brave hands”, “bobbin’ for apples (on a string), costume contest, a photo booth and some scary treats.

This event is created specifically with younger children and their parents in mind but all ages are welcome! We hope that everyone will come dressed up and ready for some seriously spooky fun!

Community League Day

When: Saturday, September 17, 2011
Noon – 5pm

In the event of bad weather, the event will be held at the Highlands Community League Building at 6112-113 Avenue.

In the tradition of an early fall gatherings of yesteryear, a roast beef supper, with corn on the cob and salad will be provided along with all the fixings. To top it off, enjoy pumpkin and apple pie served with whipped cream and a nice cup of coffee, tea or juice.

Bring your family out to partake in great food, local music and artistic expression. Lace up your runners and participate in yoga, zumba, tennis, salsa dancing and hoola hooping classes. The younger children will have a wonderful time playing soccer with mom and dad their team, making a craft, listening to a story or jumping in the toddler bouncy thing. Take a moment to relax and enjoy family, friends and neighbours on the traditional horse and buggy ride through beautiful Highlands. Breathe in the crisp air and enjoy the colours and sounds of Autumn.

Launch of Highlands, Bellevue & Virginia Park Community Walking Map

Courtesy of the City of Edmonton Community Services, a free beverage will be offered to the first 75 customers to arrive, and light refreshments will be served.

The new walking map was developed by a committee of community members following requests for input from residents, and with extensive support from the City of Edmonton's Communities on Foot map program.

Summer Kick Off Party

A kid oriented event welcoming the 2011 park attendants to the Highlands.  This event signals the start of summer holidays with cake, watermelon & juice.  In the event of great weather, the wading pool will be open for swimming. Join us for games, snack and good fun!
